A respected family physician focused on long-term relationships with patients, Dr. Baker is a natural for our board.
Maribeth Baker is a community physician with Prairie Clinic in Sauk City since 1995. She practices family medicine including obstetrics and finds pleasure in caring for all stages of life. She chose family medicine residency in the Madison area following medical school at UW School of Medicine and Public Health because she enjoyed the variety and the generational care. Her greatest professional gratification is establishing long-term relationships with her patients. She also has a strong attachment to the people in Thiotte, Haiti and works to provide medical care as well as partner in enhancing education for vulnerable children.
Much of her childhood was spent in Whitefish Bay, a Milwaukee suburb. She grew up enjoying biology, ecology and life science, and wanted to be a farmer so she attended UW-Madison, enrolling in the College of Agriculture. She graduated in 1984 with degrees in Agriculture Education, Science Education and Biology. After college she taught high school agriculture and science in Evanston, IL until changing her career path to start medical school in 1988. She came to Sauk County, first as a 4H agent in 1984, and then returned to work at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital in the Emergency Department while still a resident in 1993 before joining Prairie Clinic.
She married Bill Baker while in medical school. Together they embarked on the adventure of parenting 3 children (Ben, Hannah and Ruth) the day she finished residency. Bill works in the weather and aerospace industry.
When not practicing medicine, she can be found running, biking, hiking or in her garden. She enjoys travel but is also content at home.
