Dr. David Marcu: As I was in medical school, I thought I was going to be a pediatrician, and then I thought I was going to be a cardiologist. Before medical school, I thought I was going to be an architect, and then once I got into school, I realized what I liked, and I think what I liked was, most people in medical school like identifying a problem and fixing it, but I would rather truly repair it or fix it, improve it, in relatively short order

This practice, orthopedics here in Sauk Prairie, I had heard great things about, and I got to know them as I was in my residency training program for orthopedics. And it really is a unique situation. It's really the only practice I know of in the region where it's a small group of surgeons who work really well together, and we cover pretty much the breadth of orthopedics and orthopedic surgery.

What's important to me as far as patient communication is, I want to make sure patients know what their options are and what they're getting into. And, if we're talking about surgery, make sure they know that if it's elective that they understand it's elective, and that's somewhat a...it's a combined decision, but it's somewhat up to them.

Orthopedics here in Sauk Prairie, I had heard great things about. In a smaller hospital, I think everyone is, because it is smaller and everyone knows each other, I think people are more accountable. Everyone tends to be really friendly. We always see all of our own patients, so people come to the office and there are patients, and if we do surgery on them, I will always see them after surgery. They don't go somewhere else. Now, they may see a physician assistant or a nurse practitioner also, but they're always going to see the surgeon.

I knew the reputation of this place and this practice before I came, and that's one of the reasons I wanted to come.
