When you think of menopause, you probably think of hot flashes and night sweats. But that’s just one of many changes you may experience.
Menopause is different for every individual, and so is the age at which it occurs. Menopause typically happens around age 51 and is diagnosed after 12 months or more without a menstrual period. Symptoms often start well before that — sometimes occurring over a number of years — during a phase referred to as perimenopause.
Signs of menopause:
- Changes in your period
- Hot flashes and night sweats
- Mood changes
- Trouble falling or staying asleep
- Difficulty concentrating
- Dry skin or eyes
- Painful intercourse
- Recurrent bladder infections
Talk to your primary care provider or gynecologist about how to best manage your symptoms.
