Signs of Prostate Problems

The prostate is an organ that surrounds the tube that carries urine through the penis. While the prostate grows naturally with age, usually without problems, a change in bathroom habits is often a sign to come talk to us about what might be causing your discomfort.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

BPH refers to an enlarged prostate and is common among men over age 50. Watch for these potential signs of BPH:

  • Peeing more frequently, especially at night
  • Having a weak or stop-start urine flow
  • Feeling like you didn’t empty your bladder

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is far less common than BPH. Since prostate cancer risk increases with age, screening is important if you are 55 or older or have a family history of prostate cancer. Often, prostate cancer has no symptoms. Advanced prostate cancer can have symptoms and may include:

  • Pelvic discomfort
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Bone pain
  • Blood in semen
  • Loss of appetite and/or unwanted weight loss

If you suffer from any of these symptoms, talk to a urologist to get the treatment and relief you deserve.
