Sauk Prairie Healthcare is pleased to announce the addition of John Wollaeger, MD, to its Orthopedic team.
Dr. Wollaeger is a general orthopedic surgeon, meaning he can treat people of all ages for a variety of orthopedic conditions. He comes with many years of experience performing arthroscopic surgery, as well as joint replacement for shoulders, hips and knees, including robotic-knee replacement.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Wollaeger join our team,” said Shawn Lerch, CEO of Sauk Prairie Healthcare. “He is the perfect combination of someone who is trained in the latest surgical procedures but also has experience and wisdom of years in practice. And his personality is a great fit with our team too.”
Originally from California, Dr. Wollaeger earned his medical degree at UCLA School of Medicine and did his orthopedic residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He then practiced in Fort Atkinson for six years, before returning to UW Health for the past 16 years. In 2019, he also became chief of orthopedic services at the VA Hospital in Madison.
“I’m really looking forward to joining Sauk Prairie Healthcare,” said Dr. Wollaeger. “I’ve been practicing in the Madison area for a number of years, and it’s clear to me that lots of people are choosing Sauk Prairie Healthcare not only because of the high quality of care, but also because they feel they’re getting taken care of on a more personal level. I want to be part of that.”
While it will be a new place to work for Dr. Wollaeger, there will be many familiar faces.
“I’ve known Dr. Lamson and Dr. Hebert since residency, and I worked with Dr. Marcu while he was in residency too,” explained Dr. Wollaeger. “I’ve also worked with three of the clinic’s advanced practice providers, so I know there are good quality people working in Sauk.”
In addition to his practice at Sauk Prairie Healthcare, Dr. Wollaeger will continue part-time in his role at the VA Hospital in Madison. This will enable him to continue teaching orthopedic residents, which has been a passion of his.
Sauk Prairie Healthcare accepts most commercial insurance plans and HMOs, including Quartz, Dean, The Alliance, GHC-SCW, and Anthem BCBS. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Wollaeger, call Orthopedic Associates at 608-643-2471.
