Before their deaths, longtime area residents Dolores “Dode” and Darrell “Mac” McCluskey created a planned giving strategy to support the organizations they believed in. As a result of their forethought, Sauk Prairie Healthcare Foundation recently received a gift of $13,792.97 from the Darrell J. McCluskey Trust.
Mac passed away at age 94 in 2020. His wife of 63 years preceded him in death in 2012. Mac spent his last years at the Pines Assisted Living in Prairie du Sac and received care at Sauk Prairie Healthcare. Their children said that the two were impressed with the care that they received at the hospital and clinics, and wanted to make a gift after their death and named the Foundation a beneficiary of their trust.
Their son, Mike McCluskey, said, “The care Mac received at the hospital for both of his knee surgeries was impeccable.”
The couple spent much of their lives giving back, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and helping children read in the local school program. Mac also volunteered at the Aging and Disability Resource Center in Sauk County. The family said that they were both very involved in the local church as well. “They both gave back to the community in many ways.”
Todd Wuerger, Executive Director of Sauk Prairie Healthcare Foundation, said, “I spoke with Mac and Dode’s children, and I understand that giving back to Sauk Prairie was a natural extension of their generous spirit. We are very grateful for this gift.”
Trusts are just one way to give to Sauk Prairie Healthcare Foundation. Many people also choose to direct their IRA’s Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) to the Foundation. More details on planned giving can be found here.
